How to Use Keyword Prospecting
Keyword Prospecting finds websites that rank for keywords you care about. Instead of combing through competitor backlinks, it surfaces sites based on keyword relevance — a different angle for building your prospect list.
Where to find it
Go to Link Builder > Keyword Prospecting in the sidebar.
How it works
- Pick a project from the dropdown at the top.
- Type your target keywords into the input field. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
- Click Add Targets — or just press Enter.
Your keywords show up in a table with three columns:
- Keyword — the term you added. Keywords you entered manually get a "Custom" tag.
- Prospects Found — how many sites turned up for that keyword.
- Status — either "Searched" (green) or "Not Searched" (amber).
Running a search
Tick the keywords you want to run, then click the prospecting button at the bottom. Uprankly pulls sites ranking for those keywords and builds a new prospect list from the results.
You'll land on that prospect list automatically. From there, review the sites, check their metrics, and decide who's worth reaching out to.
Credits
Each search uses credits from your plan. Your remaining balance shows at the top of the page. If you're running low, you'll see a warning before you submit.
Tips
- Start with 5–10 specific keywords, not broad ones. "link building tools for agencies" will surface better prospects than just "SEO."
- Add a few long-tail keywords. They tend to surface smaller, more approachable sites that are easier to land.
- Filter your prospect list by DR once results come in. That's the fastest way to zero in on sites in your target authority range.
