Q. Please share a bit about your background and how you got started in the field of SEO and technology growth.
I was really sick of my job and wanted to learn something that I could do remotely. Since then I haven’t looked back, every year I live abroad for a few months and work with amazing clients.
Q. What inspired you to specialize in growing technology companies and providing technical and JavaScript SEO consultancy?
It’s a growing space where very few SEOs and developers have experience. For example, I studied Javascript for years, this is not something most SEOs are willing to take the time to do.
In addition, it’s a pretty big pain point. Many developers use Javascript and are clueless about why their website is underperforming in search engines.
Q. Could you explain the concept of search engine architecture for single-page applications, custom CMS’s, and SaaS apps? How does it differ from traditional SEO approaches?
Mostly, the issues arise from how Javascript renders. It’s a multi-step process, whereas traditional server-side rendering tends to index and rank much more rapidly.
In addition, most SPAs have a single URL, which isn’t ideal for search engines. I have a complete Single-page application SEO article for those who are interested in learning more.
Q. In your experience, what are the common technical SEO challenges that companies with single-page applications or custom CMS’s face, and how do you help them overcome those challenges?
Mostly prioritizing the latest and greatest development framework over SEO. Frankly, Google has not caught up with a lot of these frameworks.
It’s better to use frameworks that focus on the backend, such as Ruby, PHP, and even Node.js which are server-side focused.
Search engines have been rendering this type of content for a few decades now. It is ideal to stick with what is tried and tested.
Q. How do you stay up-to-date with the current state of SEO? Are there any recent developments or trends that you find particularly interesting or impactful?
You have to run a lot of tests. For example, I’m currently running a lot of tests with my tutorial website TrustinGeeks.com, I recently proposed a lot of error content where I’m trying out a number of different strategies.
For example, I’m having trouble indexing content, I’m going to see if promoting it in this article helps get it indexed.
The next time a client asks me about these problems, I’ll have a test to reference.
Q. With the rise of AI and machine learning, how do you see the future of SEO evolving? Are there any specific strategies or techniques you believe will become more important in the AI era?
Mostly you have to stay on top of any major technology change. You have to test a lot of different ideas and be on the cutting edge, especially if you do client work.
For example, you can currently use AI to evaluate your content and find gaps in what your articles are missing.
For better or worse, the answer is to test more and really stay on top of it.
Q. Are there any common misconceptions or myths about technical SEO that you often come across? If so, could you debunk one of them and explain the reality behind it?
One thing I personally can’t stand is these long ‘Technical SEO Audits.’ A Google Sheet that is well over 1,000 lines.
The idea that fixing all these little problems is going to boost your site is ridiculous (at least in my experience.)
Rather, it’s better to find a handful of major problems that really push the needle and have a proven impact on search.

Actually, I’d recommend focusing on the fundamentals of SEO on an essential WordPress website. Learning how to rank basic content, how to set up your website architecture, etc.
If you are using a ‘proven’ CMS and theme provider that is well-known in the industry, you will likely be okay.
Most technical problems come up when you do custom work, ie make CMS from scratch, do major modifications, etc.
